London's Underground Gets a Boost: Bakerloo Line Extension Plans
AECOM and WW+P Architects have been selected to spearhead the design of four new stations along the Bakerloo Line Extension (BLE) project in London. This ambitious undertaking will significantly enhance connectivity in southeast London, bringing new opportunities for growth and development.
As part of the project, the two firms will collaborate on a feasibility study for the proposed stations: Burgess Park, Old Kent Road, New Cross Gate and Lewisham. Once completed, these stations are expected to be operational by 2040, subject to planning approval and funding.
WW+P, the lead architect, will focus on the design aspects of the study, while AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm, will provide comprehensive engineering expertise, including civil, structural, mechanical, and geotechnical engineering. Additionally, AECOM will play a crucial role in stakeholder engagement and consent processes.
The Bakerloo Line Extension marks a significant milestone in London's transportation infrastructure. By extending the line to Lewisham, the project will provide essential connectivity to a traditionally underserved area, reducing journey times and improving access to the city center.
AECOM and WW+P have a proven track record of delivering successful station design projects worldwide, including the award-winning Paddington Elizabeth Line Station and the Melbourne Metro Rail project. Their combined expertise will be invaluable in realising the vision for the Bakerloo Line Extension.
