Fact-Checking Policy

Last updated: 18 November 2025

London Construction Magazine (LCM) is committed to publishing accurate, verified and trustworthy information about the construction industry in London and the UK. Our Fact-Checking Policy outlines how we verify information before publication and how we ensure ongoing accuracy across all articles.

Our Commitment to Truth and Reliability

LCM prioritises:

- Verified facts
- Transparent sourcing
- Accurate interpretation of technical and regulatory information
- Strict avoidance of misinformation
- All articles undergo human editorial review before being published.

Source Verification

We only use information from credible, reputable and relevant sources, including:

- UK government departments (DLUHC, HSE, TfL, etc.)
- Local authorities and planning portals
- Industry bodies (CIOB, ICE, UKGBC, CLC, NHBC)
- Engineering consultancies and developers
- Contractors, sub-contractors, and verified company statements
- Peer-reviewed reports and technical documents
- Direct communication with project teams where possible

We avoid:

- Second-hand rumours
- Anonymous claims without evidence
- Unsupported numbers or unverified data
- When a claim cannot be confirmed, we either exclude it or clearly label it as unverified context.

Methods of Fact-Checking

Each article is reviewed using the following steps:

a. Cross-checking

We verify key facts (dates, project values, locations, safety info, planning references, etc.) against at least two independent sources where available.

b. Technical Accuracy Review

For topics involving:

- Structural engineering
- Building regulations
- Safety requirements
- Environmental standards
- Complex project data

We consult a qualified professional or draw on authoritative documents.

c. Image Verification

Photos used in articles are checked to ensure:

- They reflect the correct project or location
- They are properly licensed or original
- They are not misleading or taken out of context

d. AI-Assisted Drafting Controls

LCM may use AI assistance for drafting or summarising. However:

- All facts are checked manually
- Editors review every AI-generated portion
- AI is never used as a source of factual truth
- Human editors are responsible for the final accuracy.

Handling Uncertain or Developing Information

Construction news often evolves quickly. When details are still emerging, we:

- Clearly state when information is preliminary
- Update articles as new facts become available
- Add timestamps for significant updates
- Avoid definitive claims until verified

Corrections and Updates

If factual inaccuracies are discovered after publication:

- We correct the content promptly
- We add a visible correction note when appropriate
- If a major fact changes, we add an update banner at the top or bottom of the article

See our Corrections Policy for full details.
