Costain Recognised as a Disability Confident Leader for Commitment to Disability Inclusion

Costain, the infrastructure solutions company, has been recognised as a Disability Confident Leader, acknowledging its dedication to fostering accessibility within the organisation. The company was endorsed by the Business Disability Forum for its forward-thinking approach to inclusivity.

The Disability Confident scheme, a government initiative, promotes inclusive and accessible workplaces for disabled people. Costain has embedded these principles into its recruitment practices through mandatory Disability Confident and Inclusive Hiring training. The company offers support and adjustments throughout the application process to ensure accessibility.

Additionally, Costain has partnered with disability charities such as WorkFit and DFN Project Search to provide work experience opportunities for young people. It is also a member of organisations like The Valuable 500 and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyards Scheme to share industry best practices.

Costain's emphasis on digital accessibility is evident with the launch of its accessible website, featuring an AccessiBe widget for users with visual impairments or cognitive disabilities. The company also collaborates with dog assistance charities to aid employees with disabilities.

Catherine Warbrick, Chief People and Sustainability Officer at Costain, stated, “Being recognised as a Disability Confident Leader is testament to the steps we’re taking to drive progressive, inclusive change.”

Costain has achieved all three certification levels of the scheme, from Level 1 in 2020 to Level 3 as a Disability Confident Leader.
