Building Foundations for Change: Overbury Transforms Stripey Stork's New Home
In a brilliant fusion of industry expertise and heartfelt philanthropy, Overbury has stepped up to support one of the UK’s largest baby banks, Stripey Stork, by refurbishing their newly acquired warehouse, entirely pro bono. This isn't just a makeover; it's a transformative project that's set to amplify the charity's impact on families in need.
The comprehensive renovation touches every corner of the facility. Overbury and their subcontractor partners installed insulated roof panels and a cutting-edge heating and cooling system to ensure a comfortable environment year-round. The offices were revamped with state-of-the-art AV facilities, creating a modern space for coordination and planning. Recognising the importance of inclusivity, they updated the WCs, adding an accessible restroom to cater to all volunteers and visitors.
But it's the thoughtful details that truly stand out. A cozy kitchen area now provides a welcoming space for volunteers to recharge, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. Custom workbenches and cot storage solutions maximize efficiency, while the whimsically named "sink of dreams", a bespoke buggy cleaning station, adds a touch of magic to the everyday routine.

Nicola Dawes, Stripey Stork’s Chief Executive, expressed heartfelt gratitude: “Charities are used to compromising, to making do. To have a partner like Overbury genuinely listen to us, understand our mission, and go above and beyond has been transformative. This project has not only upgraded our facilities but has given us the tools to scale up and help even more families in need. It’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when businesses and charities unite for good. We are so grateful to all the companies involved and can’t wait to show them what we can do with the space.”
The new hub isn't just a building; it's a launchpad for growth. With these enhanced facilities, Stripey Stork is poised to scale its operations with a goal to support 20,000 families annually by 2026. The spacious, well-equipped environment means volunteers can work more efficiently, directly translating to greater support for the community.
This remarkable project was made possible thanks to the collective efforts of Overbury's dedicated subcontracting partners: ADS Painting & Decorating, Celtic Contractors Limited, proAV Limited, TMJ Interiors, Formation Lighting, Loughton Contracts Plc, Bancroft Ltd and Berkeley Projects UK Ltd. Their contributions exemplify the power of collaboration within the construction industry.
Seeing industry leaders unite for a cause underscores the profound impact that well-executed corporate social responsibility can have. It sets a compelling precedent for how businesses can leverage their expertise to drive positive change, reminding us all that the structures we build can do more than shape skylines, they can bolster the very foundations of our communities.
As the construction sector continues to evolve, projects like this highlight the invaluable role we play beyond the confines of our worksites. It's a call to action for all of us to look for opportunities where our skills can make a meaningful difference. After all, building is not just about creating spaces, it's about empowering the people who inhabit them.
