The IPG Strengthens Its Board with the Appointment of Industry Leader Paul Hetherington

The IPG, the UK’s leading membership group for independent plumbing and heating stores and bathroom showrooms, is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Hetherington to its Board of Directors. Paul is a respected leader known for his strategic vision, digital innovation and a career spanning government, construction, manufacturing and merchanting. His appointment further reinforces The IPG’s commitment to empowering independents and strengthening collaboration through the Independent Alliance — a joint marketing initiative between The IPG and IBC, dedicated to promoting and supporting the success of independent businesses.

Bringing Industry Expertise and Leadership

Paul’s experience includes senior leadership roles such as CEO of Marshall Tufflex, where he drove both sustainability and profitability. He currently serves as Founder and Chair of HIS Ltd., leading two Vistage groups in Sussex and London, and Non- Executive Chair of Offshore Solar Ltd. Additionally, he is Non-Executive Chair of IBC Group, Board Member of the Industrial Development Advisory Board (IDAB) and Non-Executive Director at BRE Group — the organisation behind BREEAM and LPCB.

His previous tenure as a Non-Executive Director at the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) further deepens his understanding of the construction sector. Paul’s strong ties across both The IPG and IBC networks make him uniquely positioned to advance the Independent Alliance’s mission and amplify its impact.

Championing Growth, Sustainability and Digital Innovation

A pioneer in digital transformation since the 1990s, Paul has become a recognised thought leader on the role of AI and technology in the sector. With over 18,000 followers across LinkedIn and X, he continues to shape industry discussions on the future of construction and merchanting. Paul’s leadership will also strengthen The IPG’s focus on providing not just buying power and operational support, but also cutting-edge marketing services. These services are designed to help independent members and Independent Alliance partners boost their visibility, attract customers, and drive business growth in an increasingly competitive market.

Paul Hetherington commented: I’m honoured to join the Board of The IPG at such a pivotal time. I’ve always believed in the power of collaboration and the critical role independents play in driving innovation and growth. I look forward to working closely with the Board, members and our Independent Alliance partners to champion digital transformation, sustainability and forward-thinking strategies that will strengthen The IPG’s leadership and deliver meaningful value to the independent community.

A Strategic Step Forward for The IPG and the Independent Alliance

Robin Beal, Founder and Chairman at The IPG, added: Paul’s appointment strengthens not only The IPG’s leadership but also the Independent Alliance’s shared vision of empowering independent businesses. His expertise will help us navigate industry challenges and seize new opportunities for growth, innovation, and enhanced marketing support.
