CSCS Revolutionises Competence Compliance with New Digital Skills Passport
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) has today unveiled a groundbreaking new feature within its My CSCS app, dubbed the "digital skills passport," aimed at transforming how workers and employers demonstrate competence in line with the stringent requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022.
The newly integrated "My Skills" section of the My CSCS app provides a central, verifiable platform for construction workers to securely store and share their qualifications, training records, and continuing professional development (CPD). This innovative tool is designed to significantly enhance industry compliance by offering real-time access to validated skills data, leveraging the existing CSCS Smart Check platform.
A digital CSCS card, an exact replica of its traditional plastic counterpart, is now immediately available on a smartphone once an application is approved, facilitating instant site access. The digital card prominently displays the individual's photograph, qualifications, training, occupation, and card expiry date, ensuring comprehensive and readily available information.
Sean Kearns, CSCS Group Chief Executive, expressed his vision for the future, stating, "With the launch of the new My CSCS app, in tandem with CSCS Smart Check, we’re laying the foundations for a more connected and transparent industry. These tools don’t just verify skills — they empower individuals, support employers, and help the entire supply chain uphold its responsibilities under the Building Safety Act. This is the infrastructure for a smarter, safer future — built by the industry, for the industry."
The app empowers cardholders to comprehensively manage their training profiles in one convenient location, including:

The app empowers cardholders to comprehensively manage their training profiles in one convenient location, including:
- Qualifications used in CSCS card applications.
- Self-uploaded and CSCS-verified skills and CPD.
- CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test results.
Furthermore, the My Skills section enables users to upload and store additional training records and evidence of ongoing CPD. A key feature is the ability to generate a CV-style PDF summary directly from the app, which compiles all CSCS cards, training, qualifications, CPD records, and HS&E tests. This summary can be effortlessly shared with employers, streamlining workforce checks and demonstrating competence on site, a crucial aspect given the legal obligations introduced by the Building Safety Act. Employers can also view verified certificates directly within the app, further supporting their competency checks.
The platform is engineered for seamless integration with other industry systems, including site access tools and supply chain management software. CSCS anticipates this interoperability will significantly reduce administrative burdens and ensure instant verification of competence across all roles in construction, the built environment, and domestic work.
This initiative is set to benefit various stakeholders across the construction industry:
