Teona – The Woman Redefining Success in the UK Flooring Industry

From arriving in the UK with nothing to building a £200,000 flooring business in just seven months! When Teona arrived in the UK at just 22 years old, she had no professional network, no formal qualifications and no financial safety net. Like many immigrants, she started wherever work was available — as a nanny — saving every pound and slowly laying the foundations for a better future.

Becoming a mother at 23 only strengthened her resolve.

I knew there was no backup plan, Teona says. Failure wasn’t an option.

Through discipline, sacrifice and relentless effort, she went on to buy her first home in London — not through privilege or a high-paying corporate role, but through sheer consistency and determination. Those early years, she explains, became her training ground: teaching resilience, leadership and problem-solving under pressure.

Those same qualities would later define GT Floors.

Building a Business from the Ground Up

GT Floors was born when Teona recognised both an opportunity and a gap in the market. Her husband had years of hands-on experience as a flooring fitter, but Teona saw that technical skill alone wasn’t enough to scale a business.

I didn’t just want to help, she says. I wanted to build a system.

She immersed herself in every part of the operation — surveys, quotations, scheduling, supply chains, client communication and quality control. While her husband focused on installations, Teona built the operational backbone that allowed the company to grow professionally and sustainably.

The results were immediate.

In just seven months, GT Floors reached £200,000 turnover, working with multiple flooring retailers and a growing portfolio of private clients across London.

Standing Out in a Competitive Market

GT Floors’ rapid growth hasn’t been accidental. The company has built its reputation on:
  • High-quality workmanship
  • Clear and professional customer communication
  • Reliable scheduling and delivery
  • Strong relationships with retail partners
  • Consistent quality control across every project

Today, Teona manages the full operational side of the business, overseeing surveys and coordinating multiple installation teams delivering dozens of projects each week.

Operating in a traditionally male-dominated industry has never deterred her.

As a woman in construction, you learn quickly that you have to prove yourself more, she says. But I never saw that as a disadvantage. I saw it as fuel.

Looking Ahead

GT Floors is now positioning itself as one of London’s fastest-growing independent flooring companies. Expansion plans are already underway, with increased capacity, stronger partnerships and long-term systems being put in place to support continued growth.

And for Teona, this is only the beginning.

Her story carries a message she hopes others — particularly women and those starting with limited resources — will hear clearly:

Success isn’t reserved for the privileged. It’s earned through grit, courage, and an unshakeable belief in yourself.

From starting with nothing to building a home, a family and now a rapidly scaling construction business, Teona’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible in the UK construction industry when determination meets opportunity.
